Why did we change the dates for the AJGO Championship?

August 14, 2008

When we finalized our AJGO/PGA Summer Junior Tour schedule, we checked with the county and city school systems all across the State to determine the earliest school start date for classes. While we thought we have the earliest school start date- it turned out that we were “off” by 1 day. Unfortunately that 1 day was going to prevent a number of AJGO Members from playing in the Championship.
The only fair option was to move the Championship to a weekend so everyone could participate. However, even this wasn’t a perfect solution as several player have started college and as a result will miss the Championship.
Why didn’t we have the Championship on a weekend in August – because August is Club Championship Season and we simply could not find a golf course with an open weekend.
Next year we plan on getting the School Start Date “resolved” have hold the Championship before school starts.

US Amateur: August 18-24

August 6, 2008

We are headed to North Carolina to watch the US Amateur. Any of you who have played in an AJGO Tournament have met Will Wilcox – and Will qualified for the US Amateur. It’s the biggest amateur golf tournament in the world. Will has had a great Spring and Summer: he won his College Conference Championship, named First Team All-American, won the Alabama State Amateur and now he’s headed to historic Pinehurst #2 to play one of the toughest golf courses in the country. We’ll keep you posted about Will’s progress at the US Amateur.

Any Suggestions for News Feeds?

August 6, 2008

If you have a golf website that you like a lot, let us know and we will see about including it on the AJGONews web page. Along as it has an RSS feed we should be able to add it to our news page without any problems. Content is a consideration, so we do our best to make sure that the websites are providing news that is suitable for all AJGO members.

Why no AJGO Newsletter?

August 6, 2008

We initially intended to write a weekly newsletter. Great idea, but really, really time consuming. Plus, the golfing news that we were finding was basically out of date by the following day.

So we finally decided to create the AJGONews web page which almost like a “self-publishing” newsletter. We use the news feeds to keep all of the information on the AJGONews web page “fresh.” Each news feed is re-freshed every 40 minutes. And most of the websites that we gather news from post 5 to 10 new stories each day.

What is the AJGONews web page?

August 6, 2008

We think the AJGONews web page is a pretty cool idea. We made a list of all of the golf websites that we normally visited daily for golf news. Then we created a web page that contains a “news feed” from each of these websites. This way, instead of visiting each website individually, we can simply go to the AJGONews web page and see the newest stories from each website. We even place a little orange “NEW” next to each article that has been posted in the last 24 hours!

To make the AJGONews page even more interesting we have been posting the photos that we take at the AJGO/PGA Tournaments on Flickr. Then we created a feed of our photos that display on the AJGONews page.

You may have also noticed the videos on the AJGONews page as well.

Hello world!

August 2, 2008

This is our first post to our AJGONews Blog. We will be using the blog to get information posted to our AJGONews webpage quickly and easily. We have been trying to come up with a way to get information posted to the AJGO website without having to actually edit the web page itself. We can make posts to the blog from our cell phones with Text Messaging – it doesn’t get much easier than that! But I must admit that our web master is a bit of a “web wizard.”
